“For bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8)
I always understood that spiritual disciplines and practices help me know God more and become more like Him. What I’m learning more recently is how they help my life now.
For example,
Prayer is a form of self-care, since it brings strength (Luke 21:36), peace (Philippians 4:6-7), and the ability to resist temptation (Luke 22:46).
Repentance is a form of self-care, because it's not just turning from sin, but is also about turning to a greater thing. And as I learned in Regen, repentance brings "times of refreshing" (Acts 3:19) and "righteousness, faith, love, and peace” (2 Timothy 2:22)
Additionally, Wyatt Graham describes repentance as a super power, as it puts satan in his place.
Confession is a form of self-care, since confession brings healing (James 5:16), compassion (Proverbs 28:13), and freedom (Psalm 32:5; 1 John 1:9)
